In preparation for “World Environment Day”, Phek Forest division and Jalukie Forest division had carried out plantation drive in their respective districts on
June 3.
Phek: A month long plantation drive under the theme “Green Phek-Connecting with Nature” was launched in Phek on June 3, organized by department of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Phek Forest division in collaboration with the district administration, Phek.
According to DIPR report, the programme was launched by deputy commissioner Phek, Kovi Meyase to coincide with the Green Environment Sunday on June 4 and also for the oncoming World Environment Day on
June 5.
The programme aims at massive plantation in Phek district for the whole planting season during the current year with special reference to forests and environmental conservation. During the programme DC Phek, Kovi Meyase has sought cooperation from the public for maintaining a clean and green environment through this plantation programme. He also thanked and appreciated the Forest department for their initiative and efforts in raising environmental awareness in the district.
DFO Phek, Rongsenlemla Imchen who chaired the programme appealed to the public for proper maintenance of the plantation and also acknowledged the public for their cooperation.
Thepuchiyi pastor, Phek Town Baptist Church pronounced the invocation which was followed by plantation programme. During the current season the department has already distributed around 4200 saplings to the public and various organizations.
Jalukie: World Environment Day was observed by Jalukie Forest Range office on June 3, marking the day with tree planting in Jalukie town and sensitization programme at forest colony Jalukie, involving forest personnel and public.
A press note by ACF Jalukie, Peren division, Rampaukai stated that this effort had been undertaken in continuation of the “Greening Jalukie” initiative launched by Peren Forest Division in the year 2011, in collaboration with district administration, police, Eco-Clubs, town youth and women organization, town churches, Jalukie Students Union and Traders Union.
As a part of the weeklong celebration of planting season, the programme also saw distribution of seedlings to schools, churches and individuals who had come out in good numbers and shall be observing the same programme on June 5. Department of Forest had requested to all stakeholders to take good care of the planted seedlings and be part of the environment conservation for future posterity.
Phek: Hebron-1 colony youth Phek conducted a mass social work-cum-tree saplings and flower plantation drive on account of world environment day. Around 300 tree saplings and some hundreds of seasonal flowers were planted at the main road side of the colony.
The colony youth lauded the forest department Phek headed by DFO Phek, Ronsenlemla Imchen (IFS) for generously donating the tree saplings.
