During the introductory speech, Amen Jamir, the person behind Hair for Hope India and ‘Protect Your Mom.Asia Campaign’, said that after losing her mom to breast cancer 12 years ago she felt it was her bounden duty to create awareness about the disease and encourage people to go for early treatment which increases the chance of survival by up to 98 percent.
Adding that donating money was not not the only way to help someone, she said that we can contribute through love for one another and creating awareness.
Cancer Support Group founder and president, Ahimsa Zhimomi in her testimony gave insights on how fearsome it was after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Recalling her ordeal when being a patient and then the transition into a survivor, Ahimsa said the most important thing was to believe in God and keeping the hope for survival alive.
She also stressed on the need to do away with the misconception that cancer was a curse. She said, cancer was only a disease and therefore people suffering from the disease should not be stigmatized.
Ahimsa shared some tips on how to conduct a simple self examination which was to check for lumps in one’s breast and the best time to conduct this was 10 days (inclusive of the period) after the monthly menstruation.
She disclosed that currently there were 40 cancer survivors and patients involved in the Cancer Support Group.
She also cautioned the gathering to be careful in their eating habits and also maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Narola Longchari, also a breast cancer survivor, shared her testimony as a patient and survivor.
She credited God in her process of recovery and for providing her with all the monetary support at the required times.
Recalling the pain she felt when her hair fell while she was undergoing chemotherapy, Narola said that was the only time she cried as she treasured her hair a lot.
She said the noble gesture of donating hair to patients was a commendable job and encouraged young men and women to come forward to donate.
The event was chaired by Aren Sayer while The Lighthouse Church, pastor Wabang Longchari pronounced the invocation.
A group of young girls under the name “GLAD” performed a choreographed presentation.
Benjongnaro shared some words on the theme ‘Protect Your Mom (PYM)’ while Nokrangtang Jamir led the congregation in making the PYM pledge.
