SAPO to stop local tax at Phesama gate

Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) at a governing body meeting held on September 18, 2021 has resolved to discontinue SAPO local tax at Phesama gate “in the interest of the public” with effect from October 1, 2021.

In a representation addressed to the state chief secretary, the SAPO president Keriho Kiso and general secretary Mhalie Lüho said that 13 villagers along with federating units under SAPO held governing body under Article 9 of the Constitution at Jakhama Village Headquarters, Kohima and had unanimously decided to exercise its power and function under Article 10.

Southern Angami Public Organisation said that taxes levied on local product was utilised for the purpose of the humanity and developmental activities.

However, SAPO said due to various restrictions from the government and various local bodies on taxation, the organisation decided to support the stand of anti- taxation movement of the people and the government policies on taxation restriction. 

Therefore, SAPO said a decision was taken to suspend immediately for indefinite period on SAPO local tax gate. 

It has appealed to the government to re-examine all form of taxations within the Southern areas NH- 29.
