Secheku Area Public Organization opposes radar installation at Pfutsero

DIMAPUR: Secheku Area Public Organization (SAPO), representing all three ranges, has expressed strong opposition to the proposed installation of a radar system at Pfutsero town.
In a statement, SAPO president, Welhipe Chiero and general secretary, Tho O Shupao extended full support and solidarity to the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) in voicing serious concerns over the project. After consultation, SAPO stated that the installation was not in the best interest of the local and surrounding villages.
The organisation asserted that the project poses potential risks and long term implications that could adversely affect livelihood, environment and overall well being of the people.
It noted that Pfutsero and adjoining regions are known for their peaceful environment, agricultural dependence and growing importance as a residential and educational hub, and cautioned that any development threatening these aspects must be reconsidered.
SAPO emphasized that the voice of the people must be respected in all developmental initiatives. It urged concerned authorities to reconsider the decision and engage in transparent dialogue with stakeholders before proceeding further.
