Skin and dental camp conducted

A two-day free dental and dermatology camp was conducted at Eden Medical Centre covering May 25 and 26. A total of 350 patients were screened and treated for various dental and skin problems by two in-house consultants of the hospital, DDVL dermatologist doctor Atoka Sumi and MDS Dentist doctor Ankit Jain.
The most common skin problems diagnosed during the two-day camp were acne vulgaris, steroid induced face damage caused by over-the-counter medication, scabies, fungal infections, hair loss, photo-damaged skin and pigmentation.  Patients were educated by the dermatologist to use proper medicated sunscreen and not to buy over-the-counter ointments for any skin rashes as it contains steroids (clobetasol) and warned against excessive use of various cosmetics.
The most common dental ailments diagnosed were tooth cavities that require root canal treatment and fillings, decayed tooth requiring extraction, missing tooth, pan and tobacco related stains, and calculus and oral ulcer screening for cancer. Patients were advised to maintain oral hygiene, visit the dentist at least once in 6 months, and avoid tobacco products.
According to the administrator of the hospital, Lily Kent, this was the first time a medical camp was conducted for skin and dental ailments.
Kent also added that cardiologist Dr. Rituparna from Apollo Hospital in Guwahati visits the hospital once a month to treat patients with heart problems, the date of which is published in advance in local dailies.
