In a significant turn of events in the political landscape, the state unit of Janata Dal (United), which was dissolved by party’s national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh on March 9, has been effectively re-instated.
Accordingly, Senchumo (NSN) Lotha has also been re-instated as the president of Nagaland JDU unit.
When contacted, Imsumongba Pongen, who has also been re-appointed as the state JD (U) general secretary, disclosed that the party’s state unit was reinstated on August 23. He said Rajiv Singh initiated the action in consultation with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.
On the party’s stance of continuing to support the Rio-led ruling coalition in the state, NSN Lotha clarified that no directive on this matter had been received as of yet.
He said a decision on this matter would be made after consultations with higher authorities at the national level.
It was learnt that Jwenga Seb, the lone JD(U) MLA from Nagaland, was also inducted as a national executive member of the JD(U).
It may be mentioned that the Janata Dal (United) dissolved its Nagaland state unit in March this year, citing that Nagaland State JD(U) president, Senchumo NSN Lotha, had issued a letter of support to the Nagaland chief minister without consulting the central party.
