Trg held on mental health issues

Two-day training for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) under Chumukedima Block in two batches was held at Community Mental Health Programme (CMHP) office on January 28 and 29, organised by CMHP, under Prodigals’ Home, Chumoukedima on mental health, mental illness, intellectual disability and epilepsy. 

A press release by CMHP, stated that resource person, CMHP field coordinator, K Sani and asst. field coordinator, Sukum Aier covered topics on concepts of mental health as per WHO, different forms and symptoms of severe and common mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, etc, convulsive epilepsy and intellectual disability. 

It added that 26 ASHAs attended training in two batches, wherein, main objective of the training was to accustom ASHAs with cited illnesses/disorders so that they can easily identify persons with such illnesses/disorders and refer for early treatment and intervention. 

It may be noted that CMHP is a project working with persons with different kinds of mental illnesses; severe and common, persons with intellectual disability and persons with epilepsy by providing services such as diagnosis, medication, psycho education and follow ups through structured home visits besides other activities such as training for stakeholders, awareness programmes, etc.
