In addition to huge loss of business transaction among various trade and business firm due to the recent two-and-half day shutter down strike from April 26,27 and 29(half day); banks also experienced drastic reduction in bank financial transaction both online and cash during the two-and-half day shutter down strike.
According to reports obtained by Nagaland Post, before the shutter down, till April 25 five banks in Dimapur transacted on an average around Rs.9.12 crore each day. During Shutter down strike from April 26 , bank transactions in the five banks dipped to around Rs.2.76 crore in one day resulting in net reduction of financial transaction of Rs.6.36 crore each day.
The strike was called off after the state government announced its acceptance of the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI’s) 5-Point Charter of demands.
While doing so, the government had also directed the DG Police and Commissioner Nagaland, to act swiftly against those involved in various illegal collections and book them under National Security Act (NSA). Though the extortion scenario on businesses may be on temporary low key, yet forcible collection by some unions etc continue.
There are reports of some persons imposing parking fee collection in Dimapur during the past few days.
One businessman disclosed that some youths in bikes had intruded into the lane leading to his house and demand Rs.500 parking fee in the name of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) from a truck carrying some goods for his store.
In another case, some shops disclosed that some youths were demanding parking tax in the name of DMC. There is need for DMC to clarify as to which areas it has authorised collection of parking tax and the applicable rates.
Meanwhile, as prices of various vegetables at markets in Dimapur showed marked increase, DMC in-charge told this Reporter, that market rates are determined on the basis of input provided by wholesalers.
This leads to understanding that the rates are not being decided by the civic body but the wholesalers.
These are few of the issues that the DMC is required to inform public in order to ensure that everything done in its name is transparent.
