In light of the rising cases of dengue in Dimapur, residents of Ward 21 comprising of Nyamo Colony, Middle Point Colony, Churches Colony, and Notun Basti, has rallied together for an exemplary initiative by carrying out fogging drives in their localities.
Their collective action underscores the community’s commitment to safeguarding the health of its residents and emphasizing unity during health crises.
Talking to this reporter, the team members were optimistic that the fogging process would serve a dual purpose– to disrupt the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, the primary vectors of dengue, and to raise awareness among the colony residents.
With the current outbreak straining hospital capacities, the team members maintained that the responsibility for public health does not only rely on the government but also the public.
The team has been undertaking the fogging exercise for nearly a week and plans to continue. This includes comprehensive door-to-door fogging and sterilization of drainage systems.
One of the team members, Thungbemo Ezung said that the Ward 21 residents felt the urgent need to carry out fogging, particularly after the deaths of three residents. He said the team have taken all precaution while carrying out the fogging exercise keeping in mind the safety of residents.
Thungbe said the exercise was not to create panic among the residents but a preventive and proactive measure to combat the threat of dengue and prevent its spread.
He said that the team was prepared to carry out the exercise in all the colonies under Ward 21.
He also expressed gratitude to Zuchanthung Ezung and his wife Imlinaro Ezung, for providing the fogging machines and materials to carry out the drive in colonies under Ward 21.
GB of Notun Basti Ao Khel, Temsupok Jamir, while commending the team for carrying out the fogging drive, also urged the public to take proactive steps rather than relying entirely on government intervention. Echoing this sentiment, Mhayani, who had recently recovered from dengue, attested to the positive impact of the initiative.
