WED observes across state

World Environment Day (WED) was observed on Monday at different places across the State. On the occasion, large numbers of saplings were planted and cleanliness drives were carried out. 
In Kohima, chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu took part in planting rhododendron saplings at CM’s official residence organized by Kohima Environment and Sanitation (KES), NBCC.
In a press statement, chairman of KES, NBCC, K.Seyie said around 300 rhododendron saplings were planted in different locations like Phizo Hill, Census office compound, NBCC headquarters and CM’s official residence. 
Over 1000 taxus baccata were also been planted along New Secretariat, Phizo Hill, opposite the 3rd Assam Rifles Camp, D.Block, enroute DC office, Census office compound, NBCC headquarters and CM’s official residence.
Apart from hedgerow plantations, beautification and maintenance of prime traffic islands, cleanliness drives was carried out across the town and along NH 29. 
Sanitation competitions amongst the schools in Kohima were also organized to mark the day. 
To enhance cleanliness and sanitation initiatives, the KES has been working with churches and many like -minded organizations, individuals and allied departments such as KMC, KCCI, Kohima Village Council, Angami frontal organizations, PHE, Urban Development departments etc. 
Further, KES called upon the government agencies, organizations and individuals to plant more trees, particularly this month, as the season was best for plantation.
