District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting for Wokha district was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on June 21 under the chairmanship of DPDB chairman and deputy chief minister, Y. Patton.
The meeting was attended by advisor of Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan, Mhonbemo Humtsoe,MLA, vice chairman and deputy commissioner Vineet Kumar, and heads of departments. The meeting began with a review of the previous DPDB meeting minutes.
School upgradation proposal:
The board discussed a proposal to upgrade Cherry Hill Kindergarten School, Wokha. Representatives shared that the school was established in 2018 and currently has 32 students. Education Department verified that all required criteria were met, and the house recommended further necessary action.
DAPCU presentation:
District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) presented data on drug use and HIV and AIDS cases in the district. They proposed launching an Integrated Health Campaign (IHC) in selected colonies and villages to screen for HIV and AIDS, syphilis, TB, hepatitis B & C, and non-communicable diseases. The campaign would also include awareness activities, CMHIS enrolment, and involve Anganwadi and ASHA workers for outreach.
Vision for Viksit Nagaland:
Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar, gave a presentation on Viksit Nagaland for Viksit Bharat@2047. He highlighted government schemes like Digital India, Skill India, Startup India, and Jal Jeevan Mission. He stressed the state’s economic shift toward the services sector, its natural resources, and the potential for tourism, urbanisation, and green industries.
He also identified challenges such as high government expenditure, land ownership issues, connectivity gaps, and limited revenue. He urged departments to submit their targets and vision plans for building a roadmap toward Viksit@Wokha.
Advisor Mhathung Yanthan also called for alignment of programmes with this vision.
A brief update was also given on the successful completion of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan by ICAR, Wokha.
In closing, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged departments and local groups to support the Wokha football team for the upcoming Dr. T. Ao Trophy to be held in Kohima this August.
