World Ozone Day, also known as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, is observed annually on September 16. Ura Zuveh Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India observed the day at Netaji Camp Site, Chesezu Village, Phek district.
On the occasion, lecturer, Government Polytechnic, Chetheba, B. Elizabeth Hemso and Asst Headmaster, GHS, Chesezu, Vekhole Rhakho attended the programme as resource persons. They spoke on the theme, “fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change” in both English and local language to raise awareness about the critical role played by the ozone layer in protecting life on earth. To mark the day, inter-school drawing competition was organised for five categories. In the senior secondary category, Wemeche, Govt Polytechnic Chetheba won the first position, Kedayhun Khing, Govt Polytechnic Chetheba bagged the second prize and Rhuto Lohe, Govt Polytechnic Chetheba bagged the third prize. The secondary category was won by Besukhoto of GHS, Chesezu, while Theputo Nyekha of GHS Chesezu and Mutsilu Ringa of GHS Chesezu bagged the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. Luvolu of Tsuswu School won the Middle category, Nukruto Nyekha of GPS, Basa and Mutsivoyi of Tsuswu School clinched the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
While primary category was won by Nuphizo Nienu of Morning Star School, Thujoselu of Tsuswu School and Nuvotalu of Morning Star School bagged second and third prizes respectively. Differently abled category was won by Besuvolu Swuro of GPS, Chesezu Nasa. Cash prizes along with citation were awarded to all the categories winners. Altogether, 221 students and teachers attended the programme and took part in a walk for ozone awareness. This was informed in a press release issued by media secretary, Ura Zuveh Foundation, Vesukho Swuro.
SCC Tuensang: Under the initiation of Physics department, all the Science students of Sao Chang College, Tuensang, commemorated World Ozone Day by organizing a small programme in the college compound. At the programme one act play on theme “Montreal Protocol: fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change” was performed by all the science students. All together 16 science students, 15 faculty and principal Incharge took part in the programme.
