
Legal awareness and sensitization programme was held in Aghunato town on June 3, organized by Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA).
According to DIPR report, Zunheboto public prosecutor Khetoholi Yepthomi briefing as a resource person on topic “juvenile justice Act, 2 015”, said that the Act was adopted keeping in view the child’s right to survival, development, protection and the right to participation.
She said the Act was to adjudicate the juvenile in a friendly approach by way of counselling, so that the child involved in the criminal offence such as theft, rape and murder could reform themselves. Resource person Esther H. Yepthomi panel lawyer ZDLSA said that, any person involved in sexual offences in any form or kind was punishable by law under the “protection of children from sexual offences Act.2012 (POCSO)”. The defination of this law was so strong that the offender could be sentenced for punishment in jail. She also stressed on importance of protecting a victim child’s identity and to report to police station/law implementing authority immediately, in such cases arise. Esther also highlighted on “protection of women from domestic violence Act, 2005.”
Resource person Tovi Z. yeptho retainer lawyer ZDLSA covered the topic on “Rules for the administration of justice and police in Nagaland 1937 & Area councils Act 1978”. Earlier, a short speech was delivered by addl.deputy commissioneer Aghunato, Phuleshe K.Yepthomi while keynote note address was given by Niechochiyi Suyie district session judge & chairman ZDLSA. The programme began with invocation by pastor Vihoto Yeptho.
Vote of thanks was spoken by Akato Yepthomi panel lawyer ZDLSA. Pastor Kiyeho police dept. church, Aghunato said the benediction. The programme was chaired by Atoka Achumi judicial magistrate first class, Zunheboto, GBs, VCCs under Aghunato, ad-hoc town committee members, STH, teachers and church leaders attended the programme.
