A one-day workshop on “Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater Recharging” was jointly organised by Immanuel College, Dimapur and Dimapur Government College (DGC) on October 13 under the initiative of PM-USHA Monitoring Cell, DGC. The programme, themed “Ensuring Sustainable Water Availability”, was funded by the Ministry of Education under PM-USHA, Government of India.
According to a press release issued by Immanuel College Media Cell, resource persons Assistant Geologist Sendongkaba and Henmoi from the Directorate of Geology and Mining, Nagaland, Dimapur, delivered presentations on groundwater conservation and rainwater harvesting. They highlighted pressing water issues in Dimapur and India, including rapid urbanisation, over-extraction, erratic rainfall, and pollution. Key groundwater users such as households, bottling plants, car wash centres, and construction sites were identified, with warnings of declining water levels and deteriorating quality in Dimapur Valley.
The session also covered the Nagaland Groundwater Act, 2020, and demonstrated artificial recharge methods like rooftop harvesting, check dams, nala bunds, and gabion structures. Practical household conservation tips were shared to promote sustainable water use.
The workshop was chaired by Dr. Temsutola, Head of Botany and Eco-Club Convenor, with welcome address by principal Dr. Th. Sharatchandra Singh. Dr. H. Athoholi Sema served as rapporteur, while concluding remarks and vote of thanks were delivered by Dr. Vinyühu Lhoungu, Associate Professor, Economics and PM-USHA Monitoring Cell Member.
Meanwhile, the Placement Cell of St. Joseph University, in collaboration with the Indian Navy, organised a career guidance programme titled “A Career Choice in the Indian Navy” on October 14 at the university auditorium.
The highlight of the event was a guest session by Lt. Cdr. Bezai Moses, Submarine Specialist, who introduced students to the Navy’s operations, recruitment process, and career pathways. He elaborated on the Navy’s role in maritime security, international cooperation, and technical branches, while showcasing visuals of naval ships, aircraft, and submarines.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Lorenbeni Kikon, Assistant Professor, Biotechnology. Rev. Fr. Dr. L. Anish led the invocation, followed by the National Anthem by the Music Club Choir Group. Placement Coordinator Acing Susanna delivered the welcome address. A felicitation ceremony and Table Drill Demonstration by NCC cadets were held, concluding with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor Mebin Joseph and benediction by Zoology student Kalaparthy.
