Patton: Deputy chief minister, Y. Patton has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI-171, calling it a “devastating national tragedy.”
In a statement issued by his media cell, Patton said the loss of lives– including passengers, crew members, and civilians on the ground– has left an indelible mark of sorrow. “My thoughts are with every grieving family affected by this heartbreaking disaster,” he said.
Among those who died in the crash was former chief minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, whom Patton described as a man of integrity, clarity, and absolute dedication to public service.
Patton recalled his close association with Rupani, stating that the former Gujarat CM’s calm leadership and inclusive governance had earned him respect across party lines. “His untimely passing is a profound personal and public loss,” Patton added.
He further acknowledged Rupani’s contributions to Gujarat’s development, particularly in the fields of infrastructure and social welfare, noting that his legacy would be remembered with enduring gratitude. Patton said his passing leaves a void not only in the political sphere of the state but also in the hearts of those who worked with him.
As the country mourns the tragedy, Patton extended his deepest condolences to all bereaved families and hoped that they find strength in the support of the nation during this time of immense sorrow.
